An evening of music by Austin-based Ricky Stein and West Virginia native Chelsea McBee. Austin, TX singer/songwriter Ricky Stein got his start playing weekly solo gigs at the Hole in the Wall on the University of Texas campus. Several years of hard work and steady gigging around town resulted in the production and release of "Crazy Days", Stein's 2009 independently-released solo debut. At around the same time, Stein, along with several long-time friends, formed the .44, a roots-inflicted rock n' roll band. The .44's debut EP "In the Red" was released in May, 2010. She began playing her banjo and writing songs about 5 yrs ago but has always had a creative outlet of some sort from dancing as a girl to acting at Duke Ellington School for the Arts. “What I’m doing now is just the next step. It feels great!” Chelsea started by learning some traditional WV tunes from a good friend and has continued to use the old-time sound to influence her style. Artists like Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards, Ani Difranco and Regina Spektor are always playing in the background of Chelsea’s day. Other projects include performing with The Lady Dies, an alt country, rock, gypsy style band based in Shepherdstown, WV and sharing the stage with fellow singer/songwriter Bob Keel. Shepherd University's Academic Chemistry Fraternity (Sigma Pi Epsilon) will host the 2nd annual Chili Cook-Off to raise money to donate to Relay for Life.
